It's sort of a truism that we've all come to expect, and the world of office seating has been no different. That is until now.

A multi-dimensional challenge

An elite German design & development team was chartered to invent an entirely new chair for the mid-market that exceeds all others in the category for:

Support — it has to provide superior support for the upper,middle and lower back. The upper back has to roll as the user moves, the lumbar region has to be highly adjustable in terms of height and depth and the lower back has to provide firm yet comfortable support.

Intuitiveness — it has to automatically adjust itself to the user.

Precision — it has to allow for manual fine-tuning.

Fit — it has to accommodate the vast majority of human shapes and sizes. Technically speaking, that means the 5th percentile female to the 95th percentile male.

Earth-Friendly — it has to be designed for recycling, energy efficient manufacturing and make minimal use of hazardous materials.

Durability — it has to live up to Herman Miller's 12 year warranty.

Aesthetics — it has to have a contemporary shape and allow for unusually broad color options to make it a truly global chair.

This was clearly a daunting design & engineering challenge. But a five-member team in Germany called Studio 7.5 Berlin met the challenge head-on. And the Mirra is the remarkably stunning result.
