A Rich
History
The company
dates from 1923. It was established after the purchase of the Michigan
Star Company of Zeeland, Michigan, which manufactured copies of
famous European furniture. The company was named after Herman Miller,
the father-in-law of and inspiration to its first president, Dirk
Jan DePree.
Extraordinary
Design Partners
Depree had the
vision to bring on design partners to propel the company forward
in phasing out traditional styles and developing and manufacturing
furniture for the new, "modern" life. Famous notables include Gilbert
Rohde, Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson and Isamu Noguchi,
spanning the years from 1931 to 1986. Many of their pieces have
been so popular they have been reissued many times since inception.
